Indulgent Chocolate Hemp Milkshake

Whatever the season, there is nothing more comforting than a creamy milkshake. As an alternative to pudding or just as a mid-afternoon drink, a Chocolate Hemp milkshake can transform your day from average to incredible.

With the rise of dessert shops, you are never too far away from a wealth of extravagant milkshakes in all different flavours.

But while high street shakes are delicious, they are not great when we are looking at eating well. These milkshakes come with upwards of 500 calories – that’s a quarter of a woman’s recommended daily intake! Why must scrumptious food be so bad for us?

Even if you are eating clean this month, you shouldn’t deprive yourself of the occasional tasty treat. The CANNAVIST has created a healthy, vegan alternative, perfect for those clean days.

Our Chocolate Hemp Milkshake is the perfect new shake for your morning, noon or night.

To make this milkshake even healthier, we swapped chocolate powder with cacao powder. The superfood, along with being a tasty chocolate alternative, is full of antioxidants, more per gram than blueberries, raisins and pomegranates.

Cacao powder has also been shown to lower blood pressure and improve blood flow to the brain and heart.

For the milk, we chose hemp milk. Lower in calories, protein and carbohydrates compared with its dairy cow-nterpart, hemp milk is a fabulous choice when looking to make clean changes. It also has more protein and healthy fats than other plant-based milk.

If that wasn’t good enough, hemp milk contains all essential amino acids, making it a complete protein – a perfect swap for those who are looking for a protein-filled diet.

Chocolate Hemp Milkshake Ingredients:

  • 237ml hemp milk. We used Good Hemp, though you could use any non-dairy milk
  • 1 ripe banana, preferably frozen
  • 2 Tbsp. cacao powder
  • 1 Tbsp. pure maple syrup

Optional:

  • 2-3 ice cubes
  • 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract

Method:

1. Slice the banana into 5cm length chunks

2. Add the banana and other ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth

3. Using a spoon, taste the smoothie to check it’s sweet enough. If not, add more ingredients.

4. Serve immediately and drink away your worries – sip sip, horray!

5. Why not garnish with a slice of banana on the rim of the glass and a paper straw. Like a creamy mocktail!
