3 positive CBD stories to see you through lockdown

Keeping up with current events can be disheartening at the best of times.

But there are still good things going on in the world right now. You just have to dig a little deeper beyond the often scary headlines.

Here are our 3 positive picks for week 3 of the lockdown.

1. DEA removes Epidiolex from Controlled Substances List

The US Drug Enforcement Agency has removed CBD-based medicine Epidiolex from Schedule V of the Controlled Substances Act.

The move will make it easier for patients with two rare types of epilepsy to access the cannabis oil.

Patients will still be required to see a doctor in order to obtain a prescription but only once a year, and prescriptions can be transferred between pharmacies, providing greater flexibility than the previous Schedule V status allowed.

Justin Gover, CEO of GW Pharmaceuticals, said in a press release:

“This notification from DEA fully establishes that EPIDIOLEX, the only CBD medicine approved by FDA, is no longer a controlled substance under the federal Controlled Substances Act.

“We would like to thank DEA for confirming the non-controlled status of this medicine.”

2. CBD industry steps up in support of COVID-19 relief effort

CBD businesses are doing what they can to support the community and public health professionals at this difficult time.

Many are using manufacturing facilities and resources to meet the increased demand for hand sanitiser, including Jersey Hemp.

The company is the only producer in the UK with a license to extract CBD from hemp.

The sanitiser will initially be sold in five litre containers but bosses hope to source smaller dispensers.

Commercial director Craig Dempster said:

“We use ethanol in part of our processing and extraction methods when we’re producing our Jersey Hemp products and cannabis extract.

“Our chief scientist suggested we might be able to divert that production into making hand sanitiser.”

Jersey Hemp is encouraging healthcare professionals to contact them if they require urgent supplies.

Meanwhile, CUBID CBD has announced that it will donate one bottle of its Re:new hand cream to the NHS for every product sold.

A spokesperson for the brand said it wished to do its bit for ‘our amazing NHS’ as health workers continue man the front lines while much of the nation is in lockdown.

Meanwhile, Capvar Media, official producers of Easysnap packaging solutions for vape and CBD is also to produce hand sanitiser to meet demand.

3. New Zealand launches scheme to increase medical cannabis access

New Zealand’s Medical Cannabis Agency has launched its Medical Cannabis Scheme, which aims to make it easier for patients to access high-quality medicine.

The provisions allow for the domestic commercial cultivation, manufacture and distribution of medical cannabis.

Until now, patients in New Zealand have been reliant on costly imported medicine, much like private patients in the UK.

Patients will now be able to access medical cannabis in a range of formulations, including capsules, oils and raw flower.
